Introducing Mary Joy and Jairo
My name is Mary Joy Tolentino, a 23-year-old from Bohol, Philippines, and a proud mother to my three-year-old son, Jairo Aidel Timbal. I became pregnant during my second year of college, and while many believed my journey would end, I chose to continue. Jairo became my reason to stay strong and keep working toward a better future.
Balancing my studies and motherhood was challenging, but I remained determined to finish my education and pursue my ambition to become a teacher. I supported our daily needs through online selling while attending both online and face-to-face classes. With the help of my mother, who cared for Jairo when I needed to be in school, I successfully earned my diploma—my first gift to my son.
Just two days after Jairo was born, he faced a serious health crisis due to dehydration. What followed was a difficult journey filled with uncertainty, fear, and guilt. Over time, I learned to release those “if only” thoughts and focus on what I can do for him in the present.

Jairo was later diagnosed with microcephaly, cerebral palsy, vision impairment, seizure disorder, and global developmental delay. While these conditions bring daily challenges, they have also taught me patience, resilience, and unconditional love.
Today, Jairo continues to inspire me through his small but meaningful progress. His smiles, laughter, and responses brighten my days and remind me that every effort matters. Each milestone, no matter how small, is a victory worth celebrating.
My dream is to give Jairo a comfortable life with the care and opportunities he deserves. As a licensed teacher, I hope to secure a stable teaching position to support his medical needs and therapy, while continuing to create a safe, loving, and hopeful future for him.
